Gypsy Juice
In early 2021, I was on a gin kick which was due to accidentally coming into possession of too much gin at once. I found myself drinking largely gin and tonics or palomas in spare time and kept thinking that grapefruit and gin could make a delicious cocktail. Then a new coworker of mine was throwing a little soiree and asked if I’d be interested in putting together a couple of custom drinks. I was so excited, so I started experimenting with my ideas and my signature cocktail Gypsy Juice was born.
Gypsy Juice Gin Cocktail Recipe
I’m sure you’re here for a drink recipe, so I won’t waste your time. Here it is:
2oz gin
1oz grapefruit juice
3/4oz elderflower liquor
1/2oz lemon juice
Shaken & poured
1/2oz pomegranate juice to sink
Top with club soda
Garnish with lemon wheel
As I was saying, I had an idea for a gin and grapefruit juice cocktail, but I had to figure out how to make it particularly unique and delicious, of course. I was over how much I had to use lime for drinks and wanted to give lemon it’s chance to enhance a drink without being in a lemon-lime combo. There I was citrus, citrus, and gin saying “This might as well be a gin sour top it with club soda I have pink Tom Collins.”
That’s when it hit me, elderflower liquor! I can increase the floral botanical flavor and sweeten it. I will top with club soda like a Tom Collins. After tasting it, I knew I had something, but it was still missing something. It needed to be a touch sweeter and I wanted to make it visually more stunning. Started with a thought of grenadine, but that wasn’t the flavor I wanted, so I did what anyone would do and Googled “red juice” because I knew the color I wanted. I found pomegranate juice, bought it, tried it, thought it was perfect, and added it. It swirled and sank to the bottom. Although I played around with names that had to do with a sunset, I settled on Gypsy Juice.
